Edimilson Fernandes to have West Ham medical after £5.5m deal agreed
• The 20-year-old Swiss midfielder will join from Sion

West Ham have agreed a £5.5m fee with the Swiss club Sion for Edimilson Fernandes, with the 6ft 3", 20-year-old midfielder set to travel to London on Wednesday for a medical.
Fernandes, who is a cousin of the former Manchester City player Gélson Fernandes, is a product of Sion’s youth system and made 26 appearances in the Swiss Super league last season, scoring one goal. He also started the Europa League group stage tie against Liverpool last October, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Slaven Bilic has been searching for midfield reinforcements for his squad with Italian clubs also showing an interest in Pedro Obiang this week. Fernandes, who has played for Switzerland’s Under-21 side, is expected to sign a four-year contract with the club in the coming days, subject to passing his medical.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bilic admitted he is interested in Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony, while Simone Zaza is reported to be weighing up a move from Juventus.
The West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan is recuperating after heart surgery on Tuesday. The 67-year-old’s son, David Sullivan Jr, tweeted a picture of his father lying in his hospital bed on his mobile phone. In his tweet, Sullivan Jr went on to suggest his father was already back to negotiating the arrival of new players at West Ham, with the transfer window closing in a week’s time.
“Dad has just had heart surgery, woke up from operation and is straight back on the phone to sign more players,” he said.

I can see why we paid £5.5m for him, looks worth every penny. Looks good enough for our first team already, won't be long, he looks that good imho.
Great through ball in the first half from inside his own half for Martinez, who would have scored if not for an excellent save.
Second half beats three defenders inside the box to assist a cross to Martinez (who also looks very promising) to finish.

Ludo - Lanzini cost 9 mil, and Byram would have been at least that if under a long contract, so let's not include them as at that price they are the here and the now. As for the rest, will be lucky if 1 or 2 make it, other clubs do the same as us, just that we don't follow it.

We really seem to be building a team for the future.... collecting a load of 17-21 year olds who appear to be bright prospects. If they can all grow together and gradually get 1st team experience then it will be very exciting..... 2019-20 could be a big year.... just hope I survive to see it!
Can't think of another club that is this forward thinking, well done (whoever is responsible?)
